Gay Local Tips in Barcelona

Insider Tips Barcelona: Free spirited city

Definitely one of the most popular gay destinations, Barcelona is free-spirited and laidback. misterb&b entrusts João & Lorenzo, two of our most reliable hosts, to advise you on the best parties, venues and activities the gay scene in Barcelona offers. Connect with the global gay community and stay like a gay local.

What makes your city a favorite gay destination?

Barcelona is a Mediterranean city that has an awesome mix of architecture, culture, gastronomy, open air activities, nightlife and good looking boys. It's the second largest city of Spain and historically the most transgressive and gay-friendly.

At the same time, Barcelona is good for businesses and for enjoying its climate and beaches. You can feel the international environment and the cosmopolitan Barcelona in every corner. It's common to see the LGBTQ community in Barcelona showing affection in public with normality and freedom.

What's the best gay event that takes place in your city?

Circuit Festival is the biggest gay event in the city. It takes place in August (this year is the 10th anniversary) and thousands of guys from all around the globe literally take Barcelona. The most popular party is the waterpark day. The second best gay event in the city is the Gay Pride, at the beginning of July.

What's your favorite gay establishment to grab a bite for lunch? A nice dinner?

Well, in Barcelona we have a huge variety of restaurant and gastronomy and there are no specific gay restaurants since everything is pretty mixed. You'll find gay people everywhere and mostly in the gayxample area. But if we must pick one, we'll mention Casa Jaime. It's very popular with the gay community, owned by a gay friend of ours, and has delicious and affordable food/tapas.

Best gay bar for a cheap beer?

La Chapelle or Zelig from Monday to Thursday. Museum on weekends.

Best gay bar for a refreshing cocktail?

Skybar at Axel Hotel rooftop or the BeGay chiringuito at Mar Bella beach.

We're ready to go dancing. What's the best gay dance club?

Pervert if you're a house music and sweaty shirtless muscles guys lover. Ultrapop if you prefer 100% hits and cute guys.

Where to start a gay tour in your home city?

Definitely in the Gayxample to continue with the old city (Gotic, Raval, Born) and finishing at the gay beach (Mar Bella) or Barceloneta, close to the W hotel, is also pretty gay.

Best place to be surrounded by the local gays?

Everywhere! Just follow the guys’ gaze. Otherwise go to Gayxample or Mar Bella beach.

How gay-friendly is your home city?

100% gay-friendly. You can see gay people all over the city and same-sex marriage and adoption for gays is legal in Spain. Signs of affection are very common in public and normal; no one bats an eyelid.

A gay place for brunch on weekends?

Granja Petit Bo, owned by a cute gay couple, in Passeig Sant Joan.

What's gay life like in Barcelona?

Intense and with many options to offer to the gay community. Barcelona is very friendly, open-minded and people love life here. You have gay sports clubs, book shops, all kind of services, cultural activities, art, hundreds of awesome restaurants, the beach, the mountain in winter to ski, natural areas very close, hot guys... what else do you need?

What are your favorite gay venues in Barcelona?

Some monthly parties such as Churros con Chocolate, Las Cinco or Tanga party.
