Mexico City: Gay vibes down in Mexico

Gay Local Tips in Mexico City

Mexico City: Gay vibes down in Mexico

Hubert is a globetrotter: French, grew up in Paris, he lived for 4 years in Italy and he's been in Mexico for five. Our host and mister of the week is an experienced and reliable resource. Check out his interview to have the best addresses and places to be in Mexico City. Such a tolerant city will make you feel at home even off the beaten path of the gay area.

What makes your city a favorite gay destination?

Very gay-friendly, tons of gays in all the trendy/touristy areas. You can hold hands in public and nobody will even look at you!

What is the best gay event that takes place in your city?

Definitively Gay Pride: usually held over the last week-end of June. There's an amazing energy and people are coming in from abroad and the entire country celebrates!

What is your favorite gay establishment to grab a bite for lunch? a nice dinner?

For lunch I'd say Ojo de Água: it's on a cool square with trees and a fountain in the middle, healthy food, juices, salads... always lively with an international crowd and a gay friendly vibe.

Best gay bar for a cheap beer?

Patrick Miller on Fridays: iconic gay/mixed club, a big warehouse where they play high energy (a mix between 80's and EDM) circles form with dance battles. All ages, social classes and sexual orientation mingle.

Best gay bar for a refreshing cocktail?

The terrace of Hotel Condesa DF: a fancy boutique hotel in the heart of the Condesa, and a rooftop with cool view on the Parque Mexico.

Ready to go dancing--what is the best gay dance club?

On Saturdays I recommend Guilt: it's located in the fancy area of Polanco, I find it a nice club - always packed, if you’re into that playing commercial music (pop, house, hits...).

Where to start a gay tour in your home city?

In Zona Rosa (the gay area, next to the Angel of Independence) Amberes Street: The gay street of Mexico City, packed with clubs and bars playing good music even during day time.

Best place to socialize with the local gay community?

Roma, Condesa, Juárez and Centro are the cool trendy areas and you find the gay community mingling with the rest of the crowd.

Best place to be surrounded by the local gays?

Zona Rosa.

How gay-friendly is your home city?

One of the most gay-friendly cities I know – and trust me, I know, I lived in Paris, Milan and New York City!

What is gay life like in Mexico City?

What I love about México city is that you have gays everywhere, you can do PDA (Public Displays of Affection ndr) in a lots of areas without it being a problem. And you can meet guys in you every day life without having to go to the gay area.

What are your favorite gay venues in Mexico City?

My personal fav is Saint, it's another club in the fancy area of Polanco, the place is great, men are attractive and the music is great.
