What makes Melbourne a favorite gay destination?

Melbourne is a stylish, dynamic, cosmopolitan city. There's so much for the gay traveller to see and do here especially during summer. We have many festivals plus we are considered by many to be the cultural capital of Australia as well as its sporting capital. We are a mere skip away from tourist meccas such as the Great Ocean Road, London Bridge plus Tasmania and New Zealand.

 

What is the best gay event that takes place in Melbourne?

Midsumma Festival from 15 January 2017 to 5 February 2017. Midsumma Festival is an annual celebration of queer, intersex, transsexual, transgender, bisexual, lesbian and gay culture, and is held every year in Melbourne between January and February.

 

Also, we highly recommend the Melbourne Queer Film Festival (MQFF) from 16 March 2017 to 27 March 2017. MQFF has been running continuously since 1991 and is Australia's longest-running queer film festival.

 

What is your favorite gay establishment to grab a bite for lunch? a nice dinner?

Although not officially gay, Three Bags Full at the corner of Nicholson Street and Mollison Street in Abbotsford serve up a fabulous breakfast and lunch, seven days a week. They attract a pretty diverse crowd and are exceptionally gay-friendly.

 

Best gay bar for a cheap beer?

Definitely the Laird Hotel at 149 Gipps Street, Abbotsford.

 

Best gay bar for a refreshing cocktail?

The 86  cocktail and cabaret bar at 185 Smith Street, Fitzroy. 

 

Which famous gay person is from Melbourne?

Ruby Rose Langenheim, better known as Ruby Rose, is an Australian model, DJ, recording artist, actress, television presenter, and former MTV VJ. Rose emerged in the media spotlight as a presenter on MTV Australia, followed by several high-profile modelling gigs, notably as the face of Maybelline New York in Australia. In addition to her modelling career, she has co-hosted various television shows, namely Australia's Next Top Model and The Project on Network Ten.

The Prince of Wales Hotel in St Kilda followed by DTs in Richmond then the Laird Hotel in Abbotsford.

Best place to be surrounded by the local gays?

DTs Pub at Richmond is very popular with the local gays. On Wednesdays they have karaoke. On Thursdays they have a pool comp and on Fridays they have a chook raffle. What more could you ask for?

 

How gay-friendly is Melbourne?

Melbourne is a cosmopolitan place with a large gay community. As a result, most Melburnians are gay friendly especially in inner suburbs such as Brunswick, Fitzroy and Richmond.

 

A gay place for brunch on weekends?

The Railway Hotel at 29 Chapel Street, Windsor is a fabulous gay-friendly place all week long and on Sundays from 2pm they have SHAG with Queen Martine and DJ Magnus serving up luscious summer grooves.

 

What is gay life like in Melbourne?

Gay life in Melbourne is absolutely fabulous. There's so much to see and do all year round plus we have good weather all year round.
