Gay Local Tips in Ibiza

Ibiza: Somewhere like nowhere

Meet Iuri! A professional Massage Therapist and Yoga Instructor who is currently living happily in Ibiza, offering Yoga classes, organise retreats and special weeks! Iuri knows how to get around on the island so you will have some good advices here.

What makes Ibiza a favorite gay destination?

Ibiza is an iconic island and it has always had a name in the gay scene for being a special, unique, outrageous venue. It is a special place because of a great combination of nature, leisure, amazing clubs. The island itself has a special energy which everyone can feel and in the centuries this has been a place of witches, pirates, hippies and now tourists from every country: there is a multi culti abundance of people here down the streets of the city at night..... and surely you love to see how beautiful they are....

What is the best gay event that takes place in Ibiza?

Starting with the clubs openings at the end of May, the "circus" starts in Ibiza and there is pretty much something every single day. The only real gay event which takes place in ibiza is a Gay pride we have 2-3 week of June. However it is not something as spectacular as other gay prides around Europe, therefore I would say it is not attracting extra visitors. It is something that happens here but not a major "show".

What is your favorite gay establishment to grab a bite for lunch? a nice dinner?

The gay scene happens in Ibiza mostly at night and there are no official gay venue for lunch. Ibiza is pretty much about feeling free, open and it is about being outside on the streets. Tourists they would go on the beach for lunch and eat in some chill out beach club but there is not a gay beach club besides the restaurant located at the Chiringay, a chiringuito at the very end of Es Cavallet beach, that is "the gay venue" for the day. Plenty of guys there, happy atmosphere, amazing beach and clear turquoise water. In the last years this place has experienced less and less people going there, I guess for many reasons: gay community is nowadays pretty much everywhere out there, the island is filled with beautiful stunning venues which have better food, better wine, better many things.

Best gay bar for a cheap beer?

There are many gay places to go out and have a cheap beer at night, they are mainly located in Calle de la Virgin (Calle de la Mare de Deu) and in the area behind the Old Market, both are very very near, like 5 min walking distance. My favourite place for a quick drink and a condensed bunch of laughs is a small bar called OhDiaosa with my friend Tony hosting.

Best gay bar for a refreshing cocktail?

The best gay scene around a bar where you can have cocktails is in Monalisa. It's a merry bar with a very friendly crowd, they have a very nice outside space with small tables you can sit down with friends and have "una copa". In case you would go there alone you can make friends as fast as  the snow melts in August.

Ready to go dancing--what is the best gay dance club?

Ok gay community guys, get ready for this now, in Ibiza there are tons of places you want to go out at night, all of them are full of gay people. Even if they say they are not gay at night, they can be gay that night. There is only 1 pure gay club here it's a small club in the city center it has opened this year after the closing of another historical small gay club Anfora. The name of this gay club is Lolita's. Located very close from Monalisa and owned by the same gay guys.

Which gay bar offers the best happy hour on a Wednesday?

I love this question but I am sorry we don't have anything like that in Ibiza. Every day here has a different plan and different offers but no Happy Hour on Wednesdays. Every year plans change here. Usually Wednesday is the night of a super known party called La Troya which is mainly gay and outrageous. But not sure if they will keep it going on next season.

Where to start a gay tour in Ibiza?

Definitely I suggest starting the tour in Calle de la Virgen because that is historically the small street of the gay community with many gay pubs and stores, so it's a nice opportunity to see a lot of the gay scene here and there you can find out what's going on at night and maybe get some free tickets.

Best place to socialize with the local gay community?

Ibiza is such a charming place that you can socialize everywhere. No place will ever make you feel like you are in the wrong one. You can socialize very well at the gay beach in Es Cavallet, in the city center in Calle de la Virgen or in the Old Market square. There is a bar called Croissant Show that's a pure meeting point.

Best place to be surrounded by the local gays?

Local gays are working in the summer, but you surely will find them in the places I have listed above. The gay area is located in the old city between the old port and the old market square.

How gay-friendly is Ibiza?

Ibiza is very gay-friendly, very much indeed. But how can I explain so that you understand? Really come and see it for yourself! And bring some friends!

A gay place for brunch on weekends?

We don't have a gay place for brunch, sorry guys. But we have many places for brunch in a lively atmosphere with some gay guys for sure. In Ibiza you can find many glamorous places and then you can find nice more private venues where you can really chill and relax. This is what I call OFF IBIZA and in my opinion those are the most interesting cosy friendly places on the island. One of my favourite place is called Raco Ibiza. It's a beautiful garden with a large swimming pool they have a yummy restaurant there you can chill, relax, stay on a huge couch or get one amazing massage or drink selected wines or cocktails. Located in the countryside near St Rafael. Check it out.

What is gay life like in Ibiza?

Gay life in Ibiza is very nice happy in the summer and it is very much not existing from October till April. Winter in Ibiza is very quiet, relaxing and pretty much about being with your friends, walking in the nature, visiting local hippie markets (real markets only happen in the winter, in the summer they are just commercial venues). Winter is about true friends and community. Summer is about being out, tourism, and work-work-work for us.

What are your favourite gay venues in Ibiza?

Pasapalabra restaurant and bar in Calle De la Virgen (breakfast, food to go, dinner, drinks).
Criss and chic hairdresser in Calle de la Virgen.
Monalisa Bar (behind old market square) bar pub drinks.
Reset Bar (Placa del Parque) best cocktails in town.
