What makes Lisbon a favorite gay destination?

Lisbon is an amazing and increasingly trendy city, with beautiful architecture, awesome light like nowhere else, warm weather (around 260 sunny days per year), great food and inexpensive! The city is bathed by the large Tagus river with the ocean nearby, where you will find fantastic white sand beaches.

What is the best gay event that takes place in Lisbon?

Even if not a huge event, I would say that the gay pride is the main one. Don’t expect a big parade full with gym people :) There is one that is not gay but not to be missed: the traditional Lisbon festivities of Santo António in June, when the streets get full of lights, color, music and food. 

What is your favorite gay establishment to grab a bite for lunch? a nice dinner?

Trivial is a cosy restaurant with a great ambience and food in the middle of the gay neighbourhood of Príncipe Real and Sinal Vermelho, in Bairro Alto, always crowded but amazing food.

Best gay bar for a cheap beer?

Beer is cheap mostly everywhere - go to Rua da Barroca, in Bairro Alto, to the main gay area between Rua das Salgadeiras (where Purex is) and Travessa dos Fieis de Deus, where you will find lots of bars with people chatting and drinking on the street.

Best gay bar for a refreshing cocktail?

Cocktails are to have with a beautiful view. Not specifically gay but I would go to Park bar (hidden on the top of a parking lot) or to the terrace of Bairro Alto Hotel.

Which famous gay person is from Lisbon?

That’s a very good question :) Most personalities aren’t internationally known. Then we have Cristiano Ronaldo…

Ready to go dancing--what is the best gay dance club?

It really depends on what you are up to - Fridays and Saturdays, if in the mood for some pop and younger crowds, Trumps will be your thing or for electronic and scruffier man you will choose Construction. Crowded every night with drag shows you have Finalmente Club.

Which gay bar offers the best happy hour on a Wednesday?

No need for an happy hour - just stroll into Bairro Alto and pick the one you fancy the most. In Príncipe Real you can find Woof and Tr3s (more to the bear side).

Where to start a gay tour in Lisbon?

There are agencies that organize gay daily and thematic tours (not really sure what they are about) :) In the summer you can go the gay beach, Beach #19, and make an expedition there ;)

Best place to socialize with the local gay community?

At Rua da Barroca, in Bairro Alto, as mentioned above.

Best place to be surrounded by the local gays?

Crowded areas during the day will be around Príncipe Real garden and Chiado neighbourhood.

How gay-friendly is Lisbon?

Very. Even if a few people may look weirdly to public displays of affection, Lisbon is a perfectly safe city for gay people.

A gay place for brunch on weekends?

Not specifically gay places, but Leitaria in Rua Artilharia I and Delidelux in Santa Apolónia are my favourites. 

What is gay life like in Lisbon?

People are generally discreet so I don’t find it very different from everybody else. Lot of galleries and exhibitions, trendy restaurants, great shops and weekend night out!

What are your favourite gay venues in Lisbon?

My fave bars are Purex and Galeria Zé dos Bois in Bairro Alto.
