Gay Local Tips in Toronto

Toronto : New gay bookstore/bar/lounge attracts tourists

Meet Derek! As a bilingual who works in professional customer service, he sure knows how to cater to his guests. Indeed, he's the perfect resource for your gay trip to Toronto!

What makes Toronto a favorite gay destination?

This is possibly the most open-minded city in North America. It’s the most multicultural city in the world, and the most diverse. That really adds to the feeling of safety and acceptance that gay men experience here.

What's gay life like in Toronto?

It’s relaxed most of the time. Gay sports leagues are popular here. Pubs are packed with the boys on Thursdays through to Sunday.

What's the best gay event that takes place in Toronto?

Pride is massive in Toronto, but I think most people would point to that as the big event here. But Halloween is the event that really stands out. The street that run through the gay village is shut down and everyone heads outside to freeze in their skimpy costumes, stopping into the various bars to warm up and have a drink. The costumes are incredible.

What is your favorite gay establishment to grab a bite for lunch or dinner?

The Churchmouse and Firkin is a local pub and has the best pub food in the village!

Best gay bar for a cheap beer?

That’s hard to find in Toronto, but Woody’s does have the best deals on their pitchers.

Best gay bar for a refreshing cocktail?

Boutique Bar has a great selection of cocktails, as well as a perfect patio to watch the action on the street.

We're ready to go dancing: what's the best gay dance club?

While many of the boys would say Fly, I will say that the Black Eagle has some of the very best parties, along with a packed dance floor. It’s always a great time.

Which gay bar offers the best happy hour on a Wednesday?

The day prices are decent at Woody’s.

Where should we start a gay tour in Toronto?

The Beaver. It’s a West End gay-friendly bar with a really cool vibe and a great back patio.

Best place to socialize with the local gay community?

Anywhere along Church Street there are bars and restaurants where the boys hang out. And the local gay bookstore/bar/lounge is about to open. Everyone expects it to be a great community meeting place.

A gay place for brunch on weekends?

The Blake House.

What are your favorite gay venues in Toronto?

We don’t have the largest variety. But we love our pubs here, so take your pick. Sunday early evening is one of the best times for socializing at Woody’s.
