Sitges: international gay visitors rendezvous

Gay Local Tips in Sitges

Sitges: international gay visitors rendezvous

Meet Philippe! From a visitor to a resident, he surely fell for this town and has a lot to share with our gay travelers. He often loves to sit in the terrace and enjoy the beautiful ocean side view of Sitges, and if you have the chance to stay, you will find out the life of truly living in Sitges.

What makes Sitges a favorite gay destination?

The good humour of both the local people and the thousands of international gay visitors who come every year.

What is the best gay event that takes place in Sitges?

As a mostly gay event, Sitges Pride. But the Sitges Carnival is also great.

What is your favorite gay establishment to grab a bite for lunch? A nice dinner?

For a nice dinner, I’d have to say El Trul – very good continental, Spanish and Catalan cuisine in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. As always in Sitges, the clientele is mixed.

Best gay bar for a cheap beer?

El Horno – reasonable prices and a “laid back” ambiance.

Best gay bar for a refreshing cocktail?

Casablanca for great cocktails, civilized conversation and lots of art on the walls.

Which famous gay person is from Sitges?

Sitges has always had famous gay visitors.

Ready to go dancing--what is the best gay dance club?

The Organic – conveniently located in the center of town. Also the Privilege.

Which gay bar offers the best happy hour on a Wednesday?

Happy Hour is rare in Sitges, but you will find the price here very reasonable.

Where to start a gay tour in Sitges?

Probably the terrace of the Parrot’s Bar, right in the heart of the village.

Best places to socialize with the local gay community or to be surrounded by the local gays?

In or very near Sitges there are three mainly gay beaches, two of which are “clothing optional”. In 1930, Playa del Hombre Muerto became he first gay naturist beach in the world. Access is a bit difficult, but will worth the walk and some rock climbing.

How gay-friendly is Sitges?

Sitges is one of the world’s most gay friendly places, and has been for a long time. Everyone is accepted. Since 2006, Sitges even has a municipal monument against homophobia.

A gay place for brunch on weekends?

Brunch is not really a Spanish or Catalan custom. But for a Sunday lunch starting at 2pm, I’ll come back toEl Trul.

What is gay life like in Sitges?

Very diverse and lively, with something for everyone. Also convenient – everything is in the center and in easy walking distance.

What are your favorite gay venues in Sitges?

I like the music oriented places, starting with El Piano which is (as the name suggests) a piano bar. Well known performers from the London musical theater often do shows in the summer. There are also a couple of drag show bars that are lots of fun – The Backstage and the Comodin.
