Host Story Gran Canaria: Joining misterb&b was the right choice

Chris and Markus are a French/English couple in Maspalomas. They've been enjoying their misterb&b hosting ride for quite a while now and their story is the perfect example of how great being a host can feel. So make your choice and stay like a gay local!

"We've met so many people ever since we ventured in the misterb&b experience. One couple travelled 13 hours, taking three different airplanes all the way from Finland just to enjoy some winter sun and to escape their five hours of daylight!

I guess misterb&b make it feel like you’re home while you’re travelling. Our family is gay; it feels natural. We've also both worked within the gay community before so it’s easy for us.

Our home, Gran Canaria, is a beautiful island with over 300 days of sunshine a year. For that reason alone it’s an attractive year-round destination for sunbathing, pool parties and the famous sand dunes. There's a vibrant gay nightlife 364 days a year in and around the Yumbo Centre, which also hosts many annual festivals including Gay Pride, Winter Pride, Bear Carnival and Fetish Week."

What's the best conversation you had with a guest?

Too many to recall or mention here! Most guests usually have an interesting tale about where they went and who they met the previous night!

In the beginning we had to learn very quickly how to manage people’s expectations and adapt: how we did things to ensure our home life was as respected as we respect our guests vacations. We have been fortunate enough to host a hotel owner who was very fond of what we do, which inspired us to do more.

Do you spend time hanging out with your guests?

Our Guests respect that we are not on holiday and usually entertain themselves or have other friends they meet up with each day and night. However, one of us is usually always available during breakfast and we find most of our guests enjoy a chat during this time of the day. We do occasionally hang out with them should it be mutually conducive, we've even been known to go to dinner with them from time to time.

What is your best memory with your guest?

We always remember our very first guest, Phillip from Germany. We were so nervous to get everything right. He was so cool, calm and relaxed, he was an experienced host, and was trying out being a guest for the first time himself. He made it so easy for us we knew then we had made the right decision in joining misterb&b.
