Barcelona: A city to fall in love with

Meet François! He is French but he has been living as a local in Barcelona for about 19 years now. François is a devoted host on misterb&b, his mission is to ensure his guests fall in love with is city as much as he did.

What makes your city a favorite gay destination?

Barcelona is a very gay-friendly city where you can hold your boyfriend’s hand without any problem. Aside from being a major LGBT travel destination, tourists will also find a very complete cultural offer: museums compelling architecture, expositions. Of course we have awesome beaches and, if I might say, gorgeous men! Plus, we enjoy a warmer and nicer weather compared to other corners of Europe!

What is the best gay event that takes place in Barcelona?

With no doubt, the Circuit Festival in August. It draws about 70.000 men from all over the world. You really get the impression that everyone's in Barcelona over summertime, expecially August.

Where to start a gay tour in Barcelona?

My house could be a perfect starting point! Just joking! I'd say you should start off from Plaça de Catalunya, the real heart of the city, or from Passeig de Gràcia, one of the most exhuberant and remarkable areas of Barcelona.

Best place to socialize with the local gay community?

“Gayxample”, Barcelona’s gay area. This is from a cultural point of view the gay area of the city. Also Barrio de Gràcias, in the upper part of the city, is a very gay-friendly spot, most of the bars here display a "gay-friendly" advert inside. It's overall one of the best places to hang out. It's lively, trendy and yes, a bit hipster.

Best place to be surrounded by the local gays?

Mar Bella beach

How gay-friendly is Barcelona?

Very gay friendly! You can see men holding hands everywhere, even on the most popular streets. It's also quite common to see gay families hanging around everywhere and nobody really pays attention to that! It's just the way it should be everywhere. We share a great sense of acceptance.

A gay place for brunch on weekends?

El Berro

What is gay life like in Barcelona?

Very intense! There are many bars, clubs, restaurants and shops. And the beach in summer, of course. Barcelona is a very open-minded city, everybody enjoys living or spending some time over here. There's several LGBT bookshops, excentric corners, clubs, themed parties.
